In praise of ARP - I give to you "Snoogums", my 6.8 AR
Snoogums was the name of my favorite stuffed animal as a kid. It always brought me joy and gave me a sense of protection and safety against the monsters hiding under my bed. Well, I'm 44 now and decided I was in need of a modern version of Snoogums to give me a sense of protection and safety against the monsters outside my doors.
Having many and varied ARs in different calibers but none in 6.8, I decided to engage AR-15 Performance for a custom built 6.8 upper.
H and wife were accomodating and prompt in their emails and delivery of my new bestest friend, a 12.5" bundle of warm, hardened steel and aluminum joy.
I give to you Snoogums, 2011.

Donna, I don't usually do this but I just had to tell you guys about my first range session with the 5.56. I mounted a Swarovski Z6 1x6, loaded some Sierra 77gr and raced to the range before it got dark. After all of two shots to zero @ 100 yds I shot three 3 shot groups. They all were ½ in. I then ran out and put up a target @ 200 with a few minutes left till dark. I could barely see the target but fired 3 shots pretty rapidly: 1 ½ group. This thing shoots better than my $3000 custom bolt rifle. I will have some fun with this. Thanks DG

"H and D - Thank you for meeting and exceeding my needs for my second ARP build. The 762x39 custom is shooting exceptionally well, with no failures of any sort, and very accurate even while running cheaper Russian ammo. Also, I appreciate your commitment to USA products/manuf., listening to my needs/expectations, and producing a product that is built for hard use with no exceptions.
Cheers!

Donna the rifle came on Friday, looks great. I mounted my scope and sighted. Shot 5/8" group @ 100 yds. 5 shots with ssa pro hunter ammo. I say this is the best rifle I think I have ever put in my hands and was well worth the wait. I will have y'all to build me another one day. Thank you and H for everything that y'all have done. Thank You, CB (1.23.11) ***********************************************************************************************************
Just wanted to say a special thanks to Constructor and Mrs. Constructor. I had a critical need and they went above and beyond to help me out. Its easy for other AR makers to claim they have good customer service but what counts is what happens when you need help. ARP will come through for you - you may find someone as good but I'm telling you that there isn't anyone better. THANKS. BB 10/25/10

Donna and Harrison, I just wanted to thank you for building such a quality upper. It shoots better than most of my bolt guns. I started off the season two weeks ago by shooting a 200 lb 9-pt in South Carolina. One shot, 95 gr Barnes TTSX reload in front of 29.5 grains of Re10X, SSA Brass, CCI 41 primer. The shot was about 75 yards, destroyed both shoulders. He ran about 50 yards before piling up. I really love the gun. Keep up the good work. MM 9-9-10

"Donna and Harrison, I have always wanted an AR in a larger caliber (6.8X43) for deer hunting but I wanted to build it myself so it would be "MY" rifle. Donna, thank you for putting up with my continuous correspondence, because I couldn't make my mind up on certain components. Harrison, thank you for helping me trouble shoot my build when I was having ejection problems due to not having the JP gas block adjusted properly. You could have told me send it in and I'll assemble it and charge me for your wealth of knowledge you give out free on the phone and on 68 forum. Here are pictures of the rifle and of my sons first kill. He dropped the doe pictured and a button head (not pictured). He used SSA w/110 GR. Nosler Accubond ammo, out of your 16" Recon Barrel, bolt carrier group, and Superbolt. Looks like I'll be building another one if I can't get "MY' rifle back. Thanks again for all your help." Donna and H, I just want to say thank you, I had pretty much given up on having this upper for this hunting season and i set my scope on my other 6.8 sp 1, it means alot for you guys to get this built , tested and get it shipped out, this was above and beyond just to please a customer at no fault of yours, after all the reviews on 68 forum and rejecting barrels because it wasn't to your standards, i'd never known the difference, that means everything to a customer, even if you couldn't have come thru, i'd bought one in feb or march for sure. I know i made the right decision for choosing ar15performance. thanks again rowland

I have two 68 SPC uppers built by AR performance. I have a 16 inch MK68 upper that even with the 4x Acog regularly shoots 1-1.5 inch groups at 100 yards with SSA factory ammo. I also have a 20 inch SAM-R that will shoot 3/4- inch groups at 200 yards. Donna and Harrison have both been more then willing to answer any questions I may have and I will continue to order my uppers from them. Sincerely AKH

OMGOMG! It came in in time! Got it about 1PM, had the rifle together and on the range an hour and a half later. Sited in and ready to shoot a deer. Handles SSA tactical loads very nicely. Thanks much for all your help and congrats on the FFL. Now I have to buy one of the early serial numbers! DR

Just to let you know I shot my ARP 6.8 upper , purchased last September, today and it is a thing of beauty less than 1 MOA at 100 yards. I have 500 rounds down range so far and I am very pleased. The information H shares on the .68 forum and your product has earned you guys a lot of respect in the shooting community. Thanks CW 1.9.10

I'm a gunsmith-machinist at Ole's Gun Shop in Salem, Oregon and do a lot of target rifles for the many competitors here. (I'm an NRA High master in Highpower and silhouette. ) Oregon is lucky to have several ranges with enough distance to really test guns and their shooters. I've discovered the 7.62x39 can be surprisingly accurate in an AR upper with a super match barrel and the right reamer. I've also discovered that the cheaper bolts don't work with the greater bolt thrust of the 7.62x39, 6.5 grendel, or, 6AR. Your bolt has survived! Thanks KR

"Thanks for the help and making such a great upper...just got a nice big 6 point on sunday; recieved the upper on thursday, sighted it in on fri and sat, got a deer on sun. Great weekend. I'll send some pics soon. SN"

"Donna and Harrison, thank you! I received my upper, loaded some of your recommended loads for the 90 gr. TNT bullet, attached an OLD Leupold VX-II 2x7 scope (LaRue mount,) and went to the range. I used some SSA 110 gr. factory loads to get on paper, and used that as an opportunity to condition the barrel. I used the handload (Wolf SR Mag primer, 29.0 gr. Rx7, 90 gr. TNT, OAL 2.95") to finish the conditioning. At 100 yds., my first three shots grouped at just under 3/8". (WOW!) Two more rounds still grouped under 3/4". I can't wait to get my higher power scope installed. I finished the last 5 round group with the SSA 110 Accubond TL load. The first 3 shots came in at 9/16", then I kind of fell apart (heavy trigger), expanding the 5 round group to 1 3/8". Neither load showed any pressure problems. The upper is affixed to a Stag Arms lower, with the stock trigger (yeah, it takes a lot of concentration to pull off a smooth shot). and a 6-position stock. I am amazed how accurate the rifle is considering these factors. I shot at 71 degrees F, at approx. 2700 feet. Thanks again for an excellent product! The fit and finish is perfect. Very truly yours, RM"

This Recon is a TACK driver! One hole 5 shot group at 100 yds with 90 gr TNTs, SSA Brass, and H322. Still working up a hunting load with the 110 gr. pro hunters. Shot five 5 shot groups the other night starting at 29.5 grains of H322 going up to 31.5. 1.5" groups until the 31.5 load...this load shot .75" with no pressure signs...will now tweak it a little each way...I can see another one hole group in the making. Thanks for a fine product, TS"

"I want to take a moment to thank you for a superior well thought out product at a fair price. It is actually restoring my faith in the American dream to see that there is still someone out there who believes the quality of their work is important and that getting a fair price for that product is a model that will still be providing in the long term. For those who are taking advantage of the end of the world hysteria and charging all they can and more, sooner or later these times will change (it is a fluid and changing world) and then in order to maintain their profit margins they will have to start outsourcing more and cutting corners and the downward spiral begins. Not to mention that while they are on a temporary high others are developing new products (like the adjustable suppressor, ITS bolt, etc.) that the public is going to hear about and want, and then they will have offer to stay in business (more stress on margins) Thanks, MD-Spokane WA"

"The boss shot his Recon 6.8 this weekend, and he was very very impressed with the accuracy.
No detectable Point of impact shift with even a very hot barrel from long strings of fire.
He was pretty sad that there was no 556 Recon available.

"Donna & Harrison, I received the XT upper this morning and it is absolutely outstanding! The service, emails, and final product are the finest and I truly appreciate it. I will mount my scope this week and test fire. Next week I will be off to the hunt. I will be the envy of all the other hunters (there are only three of us) but most of all I'll be a proud owner of my own (and the finest) 6.8 SPC AR!!! TM"

"Donna, Harrison, I just wanted to write you and to thank you for the amazing product! I have several AR's in my collection and my new favorite is the new 6.8 SPS that Harrison built for me. Fit and finish are outstanding! I have to say the only reason that this rifle is not shooting sub/MOA groups is the guy sitting behind it (ME)! I went through the break in cycle for the first 100 rounds. the next day I went to the range to BZO and set up the Aimpoint! It got dark on me the first day. With the Aimpoint Comp3 (2MOA) I was shooting 1 to 1 1/2 groups at 100 yds rested all day long! It was funny because I'm not that good of a shot! So my next question is this, when are you going to make a conversion piston system for this gun so I can convert it over? I will be waiting in line for that upgrade! Thanks again! AA"

"Got my upper today. Great craftmanship, worth every penny. If more americans would deliver quality like you do we would be a much better country. Thank you, it looks better than I expected.
Thanks, TS"

"The upper arrived today! It looks great and fits the lower I built like a glove. Can't wait to shoot it this weekend." MB "Took it to the range today for a quick workout, and it was great! Only had time to fire 40 rounds, all Silver State Armory Sierra Prohunter 110 grain. Functioned fine, and the accuracy was excellent. I've attached a couple of photos. It was great at offhand plinking too. All around a fine rifle. Great work! MB"

"I love the MK68 Recon you sent me. It shot sub-MOA right out of the box. Attached is a picture of a small hog that I took at 225 yards with it this past weekend. I was using Silver State Armory 110 gr. Barnes (tactical load), a Rock River lower with ACE skeletonized stock, AWC suppressor, and a NightForce 1-4x24 scope with a LaRue Tactical quick detach mount. With the relatively low magnification scope and its relatively large CQB target dot, it is a testiment to the accuracy of this rifle that I was able to hit this little guy with a center shoulder shot and a head shot at this range while he was moving. Thanks again and I look forward to ordering again from you in the future. SN"

"H,
First let me express how happy I am with my Xtreme It is a dream to shoot and has functioned flawless, but that's what I expected! I mounted a Leupold 3x9x50 VXII using a Brownells mount, I'm looking forward to opening day of hunting season in November. HH"

"I got the upper, mounted it, and had it on the range today - the rifle performed flawlessly, brass extracted and ejected well and everything functioned as it should. I shot .750MOA at 200 yds and 1MOA at 100 yds. JK"

Hi Donna and Harrison,
You asked for some pics of my build with your barrel and MCD. I doubt there is another like her: Tactical Innovations billet lower, Larue Tactical Stealth upper receiver with M4 feed ramps, Daniel Defense 10" Lite hand guard, Gasbuster charging handle, Magpul ACS stock, MI low profile rear BUIS, AR Performance 6.8 barrel, super bolt and Muzzle Control Device. Optic is a Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 Tactical in a Larue SPR-E mount. I know the 'Larumenati' would kill me over mixing that upper receiver with a DD Lite rail, but dang it looks good and it works great. Here you go:

Initial results are very promising. This was my best group after sighting in shooting SSA 110 gr Pro Hunters at 100 yards. I was aiming at the bottom point of the diamond, so it's sighted 1.5" high at 100 yards. Admittedly, it's only a three round group, but I was running out of ammo at the range (plenty at home -- haha). Plus, this was using a MilSpec trigger from a regular DPMS lower parts kit:

Thank you for a perfectly built upper, made me a much better shooter right out of thew box. It took me 4 months to get to the range with work, but it was great. Sub 1 MOA with the iron sights, and close to that with my eotech XPS. I have one of the 16" chrome lined mk68 recons, I believe with the DMR-c chamber. ST
