NOTE- STAG, YHM and DPMS uses a different thread on their 6.8s than everyone else, our 5/8-24 thread comps will not fit their barrels we do not sell any muzzle device that will fit those barrels.
Brakes or muzzle devices with large square or slotted ports on the side increase noise to the shooter and bystanders. They do reduce recoil but do not reduce muzzle climb as much as other devices on the market. The Hill Rolling Thunder and SJC Titan have long been known to be the best full on competition brakes for 3 gun partly due to the top ports controlling muzzle climb and they have smaller side ports so the gases will exit the top ports, they are much more effective than those brakes with huge side ports. Brakes that have huge side ports and small top ports like the Rainer XTC and Bennie Cooley do little to control muzzle climb.
The 12 port brake is a full blown competition brake, it was designed with the priority being reducing the muzzle rise to zero along with reduced recoil for the fastest follow up shots while not being as loud as brake with large side ports.
The "NMR" brake was designed to eliminate muzzle rise with the least amount of noise. It does not reduce recoil as much as the 12 port but is not as loud. It does not reduce flash as much as the 5X4 or MCD but does a better job of stopping muzzle rise.
The 5x4, MCD and NMR were designed to be quiet enough to hunt with out hearing protection first (HF hearing friendly) and then being a compromise on how much they reduced muzzle rise and recoil.
The Tac Brake was designed to cut muzzle blast to a minimum as a priority and reduce muzzle rise second but be a "brake" for those states that do not allow flash hiders of any kind.
Flash hiders are just that, none of them do anything to reduce recoil or muzzle rise but they do not increase noise to the shooter.
